Latest Information

Update on the recall process (August 14, 2025)

For about two weeks now, we have been sending many hundreds of return boxes each day to affected customers. We kindly ask for your understanding that it took some time for processes to stabilize and that, in the early stages, we could not always use the ideal packaging. The procedure is now running more smoothly, and every day we receive many hundreds of returns at our dedicated service centers for this recall. We have also expanded our testing capacities and increased our service teams to speed up processing.

Our customer service team is also handling a very large number of enquiries daily. Before contacting us, please carefully review our recall website and FAQs – many questions are already answered there, enabling us to focus more effectively on individual cases.

From this week onward, we have begun returning many hundreds of checked and approved wheelsets to affected customers.

How to identify checked and approved products

All wheels that have been inspected during the recall process and approved as safe are marked with a round Quality Check sticker (Nr. 1) placed directly next to the DT Swiss ID (see picture).

A conclusive product check is ONLY possible by scanning the QR code of your DT Swiss ID (Nr. 2). This QR Code contains the 12-digit product serial number of your specific product. It is composed of:

  • First 7 digits = production lot number (visible DT Swiss ID - Nr 3).
  • Last 5 digits = unique sequence that completes the individual serial number. It is uniquely assigned to one specific wheel and it is not visible on the sticker or on the wheel.
  • The full 12-digit serial number can be read ONLY by scanning the QR code (Nr. 2).

If you are having trouble scanning the QR code, please refer to our FAQs for tips on how to make the 12-digit serial number readable.

Only products whose full 12-digit serial number appears in our Whitelist (i.e. dataset for QR Code scanning) are considered inspected and approved. This whitelist, created specifically for this recall, contains only serial numbers of individual wheels that have passed inspection.  Updating this whitelist and releasing the dataset for the QR Code check tool can take up to 2 days.

Important: In the manual checking (CHECK HERE) of the 7-digit production lot number (DT Swiss ID - Nr. 3) your wheel may still appear as “potentially affected,” because it refers to an entire affected production batch – not a specific wheel. The combination of the Quality Check sticker and verification of the QR code (12-digit serial number) is the only way to confirm that your wheel is safe.

Product Safety Recall (July 29, 2025)

Dear DT Swiss customers and business partners,

Following the Stop-Use Notice issued on July 12, 2025, and after comprehensive analysis and the development of a structured resolution process, we are now announcing an official product recall. We would like to inform you that DT Swiss is recalling affected wheel models of the ERC, CRC, and HEC series with rim heights of 35 and 45 mm and models of the ARC series with rim heights of 50, 55, and 65 mm. While the initial Stop-Use Notice applied to selected ERC, CRC, and HEC wheels, the recall includes ARC models manufactured at the same facility. Although no product defects have been reported for the ARC series, in-depth quality checks have revealed manufacturing concerns similar to those previously identified in the ERC/CRC/HEC models.

Please note that ARC wheel models in rim heights of 38, 62, 80, and 85 mm are NOT included in the recall. Furthermore, all rims manufactured in DT Swiss`s own facility in Poland are NOT affected by this recall.

Please also inform your family, friends, and acquaintances about this product safety recall!

Swiss Side - product safety recall

This product safety recall also includes products from SwissSide. HADRON models with rim heights of 450, 500, 550, and 650 are included.

Although no product defects have been reported for those wheels, in-depth quality checks have revealed manufacturing concerns similar to those previously identified by DT Swiss.

Please note that HADRON wheel models: 380, 625, 680 and 850 are NOT included in this recall. Furthermore, all rims manufactured in DT Swiss`s own facility in Poland are NOT affected by this recall.

The subsequent information and process steps, including product identification (DT Swiss ID) and remedial measures, apply to both affected DT Swiss and Swiss Side products. Your processing partner for this product safety recall is DT Swiss.

These products were sold either as parts of a complete bicycle or as individual components via online retailers or specialist shops. This product safety recall only affects bicycle wheels with carbon fiber composite rims (commonly known as carbon rims) that were manufactured in Vietnam. Only bicycle wheels with a DT Swiss ID number of 2740000 or higher are potentially affected by this product safety recall! Not all products with a DT Swiss ID number of 2740000 or higher are necessarily affected by this product safety recall. It is therefore necessary to check the DT Swiss ID number to determine whether your product is subject to the product safety recall (see «Check Your Product» below).

Why

Why is the product dangerous?

Analysis of a small number of reported incidents involving bicycle wheels from the ERC product families has shown that spontaneous delamination (i.e. detachment of the outer carbon layers) can occur in the rim flange area of the model series mentioned. The rim bed is not affected by this delamination but is also damaged as a result of the structural weakening. This form of delamination leads to considerable structural weakening and even total failure of the rim.

The product defect described increases the risk of an accident that could result in property damage, serious injury or death.

Where can I find the DT Swiss ID on my WHEEL?

The DT Swiss ID number is a unique alphanumeric designation of a product assigned by us as the manufacturer. It can be found in three positions on the rim: attached to the product with a tamper-proof sticker, in the form of a QR code and as a 7-digit identification number.

If the stickers with the DT Swiss ID number on your product are no longer visible in the locations shown above or have become illegible due to wear or aging, you can also send us the rim series number located under the rim tape to the email address recall@dtswiss.com. With this number, our team can perform a manual search to check whether your product is affected by the product safety recall

Further procedure and REMEDIAL MEASURES FOR CUSTOMERS

  1. Registration: Once you have registered your affected wheel or wheelset, we will contact you within 24 hours with details on how to proceed.
  2. Shipping Boxes: You will be provided with a link where you can order shipping boxes. For each registration, you will receive two empty cardboard boxes, inlays, and assembly instructions. If you have two affected wheel sets, you must register twice. We will also send you shipping information depending on your country.
  3. Prepare & Ship Wheels: If possible, we ask you to send in wheels without tires, brake discs, and cassettes. If you are unable to remove these components, you can either seek assistance from your local dealer or send in the wheels with the components still attached. Expenses (e.g. disassembly costs charged by dealers) will be reimbursed. Customers who send in wheels with the specified components will of course not be disadvantaged in any way.
  4. Processing Time: As soon as we receive the wheels, we will process them as quickly as possible. Depending on the country, the processing time is estimated at a maximum of 20 working days during the first six weeks, with the target for all service centers being less than 10 working days.
  5. Quality Test: We will check all wheels returned to us by conducting a quality test in order to identify the defective products. With this quality test, we define internal company requirements that exceed the specifications of the relevant industry standard (ISO 4210 series). Only products that fulfil these strict internal company requirements are declared as safe, labelled accordingly.
  6. Return Shipment or Replacement: Wheelsets that pass the quality test will be returned to the registered address. The wheels will be returned in the same condition as they were delivered to us. If a wheel is found to be defective, we will immediately contact you with proposal for a free replacement wheel. Returned and replaced wheels will have a round Quality check sticker on the rim to confirm the product was tested and passed.
  7. Check Quality Test Status: All affected wheel types that have been to a service center and passed the quality test can still be checked later by scanning the QR code of your DT Swiss ID with your phone . All checked and passed wheels will be identified by the system as checked and released; the check can therefore be traced at any time.

Press release (12 July 2025)

Dear DT Swiss customers & business partners,

This week, we have received a limited number of reports regarding failures in products of the ERC/CRC/HEC with rim highs of 35 and 45 mm model series and DT Swiss ID higher than 2750000.

In the affected cases, rim failure occurred. We have promptly initiated comprehensive investigations to determine the cause, which are currently still ongoing. According to current knowledge, the reports exclusively concern products manufactured and delivered from September 1, 2024 onwards. Wheels with this rim type have been successfully on the market for several years without comparable reports.

In the reported cases, spontaneous delamination (separation of carbon layers) of the rim flange occurred, significantly compromising the wheel’s structural integrity (stability). Due to this damage, there is an increased risk of accidents that could lead to property damage, serious injury, or death. Out of an abundance of caution, and in the interest of consumer safety, we are asking all customers to stop using the Affected Products and all distributors, manufacturers, and retailers to remove the Affected Products from commerce immediately. This Stop-Use Notice remains in effect until the cause has been fully clarified.

We have supplied the affected wheels to various bicycle manufacturers and brands as well as retailers and are currently informing them about the safety notice. Once the investigation results are available, we will inform our customers about the necessary measures, which may range from inspection to product replacement.
